queen of colors

No way, I could possibly choose a single color for this week. No main theme, except from the fact that the palette had been definitely infused by the season; a lot of yellows, reds and browns. But then again, everything has been completely different too. As you might already know, I did finish a wall painting this week. And we went through a good amount of dog training hours in the Fishbowl. For the first time, it feels like we're getting somewhere close to Emma's exam. Then there was extensive cleaning and clearing around the place and with that, I could clear of my head a little too. And in the end, we had our first studio dinner after the Summer Break. So it is probably no wonder, I kind of have the impression, this have been actually two weeks pressed into one. And it is, of course, inevitable that the rest of this Sunday will be spend in a rather tradional way; on the couch, doing little. I wish you a good dose of chilling too and a sunny start into the new week.

another family affair

Here we go. That secret project I was making all those hints about, over my last posts, it is finally done. Little, friendly creatures have moved into the nusery of my soon to be born niece. My sister is having her first child in a couple of weeks and after wanting to welcome her with a rather personal gift, I've decided to come up with a wall painting for the little one and for her parents. I am constantly working on installations, and on paintings, including canvasses, wood or paper, but to paint on a wall is a whole different story. Let me tell you, though I had a lot of fun during the project, today my knees, arms and shoulders are not the most friendly parts of my body. They hurt, like I have ran a marathon or did climb that freaky wall. Sore muscles at their best. But, I am really, really happy with the outcome. It has been a bit tricky to take proper images. As it is a small room and there was simply not enough space, to step back in order to catch the complete story, but I think you'll get the picture. Little niece, I hope you'll like your new friends. They're awaiting your arrival patiently.

queen of colors

It is Election Sunday in Germany and they say, much more people than expected, are lining up to put in their vote. I like the sound of this. Maybe we haven't entirely lost the interest in our surroundings, maybe the last meters of the campaign have simply triggered some kind of sporty ambition, but this is not for me to decide. The fact, that people do vote, is a good start. No matter the outcome. For the rest, we will know more about this tonight, I guess.

Looking at the collection for this week's Queen of Colors, please be assured, it has nothing to do with my political preferences. Hell no. It is more about Fall, obviously pushing it, about greetings from India, still about the little family project I am working on and which I hope to finish by tomorrow, and last but not least, it is about the best vegan cookies I have ever eaten. And that coming from me, a so not vegan food enthusiat. Thank you, dear neighbor, you have definitely inspired me, to try out more from this department. Well, we all probably should, try out more new things. Therefor, I wish you an adventurous and exciting week ahead.

berlin art week and a special kind of up

postcard "thylacine" by joseph mcglennon

I have seen lots and lots of other people's art lately. Some medicro stuff, some I would rather forget instantly, and some, I was definitely blown away by. We're in the middle of Berlin Art Week, and though I usually hestitate to jump on the band wagon, and don't believe in all the screaming and all the hype about the fairs, this time I took my chance to extensively dive into it. It might take a little while to get over this visual overdose, to digest all the impressions, the conversations I had and the people I've met, but so far, the Preview has been my personal highlight. It is rather about fresh talents and emerging artists, than the big shots, which brings some really new perspectives and impressions. So, if you happen to be in Berlin, you can still go tomorrow and catch a glimpse (They do have the most amazing and biggest elevator, I have seen so far. Do not miss to ride it. Highly, highly recommended. It will make you smile!). For me, it is watching television on the couch, a glass of red wine and pasta. Enjoy your Saturday night, dears.

September 18, 2013

apparently not

It is dark already; I can hear the rain and old tunes playing on my computer. In between, I even find myself singing along. Memories mixed with a very heavy scent, coming from a giant bunch of Lillies. Sitting beside the office desk. The rest is quiet. I am in love with moments like this. Probably one of the benefits coming with Fall. And actually, there is no need to spoil this, by trying to explain.

"Hey, stop talking, think I can hear the sea. And did I tell you the sound of the surf makes strange things happen to me. And I don't mind if you want to crash the car."
(Lyrics of "Here and Now" by Del Amitri).

I wish you a wonderful night. For now.

queen of colors

This Monday finds me tired. Well, this is probably not the most inspiring opening for a new blogpost, and probably even less tempting, for starting off into another week. But this is simply, how things around the Fishbowl feel today. Mellow, concentrated and slightly tired. Tired hasn't to be bad though, when rooted in a lot of things done. There was a very special project, I am working on right now, and which I will post more images about, when it is all finished and nice. There was a lot of sleeping, again, more healthy food than the days before, and meeting my sister for cake and for dinner. This week awaits me with lots of appointments, as it is Art Fair Week in Berlin. I am looking forward for new faces, inspiring work and tons of creative encounters. And before diving into the world of the fairs, there are new business cards waiting to be designed and many, many emails to be answered. So feeling tired on a Monday is maybe not that weird, but the inevitable thing to do, when you'll find yourself between so many new things. Between all the magical things, that appear like a light blue idea of adventures. Have an exciting week, you guys, and tell me about what it is, that made you tired lately, in a positive way.

no way to cheat a routine

Getting back on track after a studio break is never easy, getting back after being sick is even harder. For me it is. Though staying on the couch becomes super boring at a certain point; all that time to waste, that extensive reading books, the instant naps and all those kind of movies, you have always wanted to watch, is sweet as well. Laziness is quick in developing roots and to grow into a nasty habit. Well, I am over the couch (still tempted in the back of my mind) and am slowly working my way back into studio hours, into walks with the dog and into getting things done. Away from that laziness to being productive again. Things are not all pretty yet, but this is, at least, what I hope for. Today, I'll start with the first Open Studio after our Summer Break. So, if you happen to be in Berlin, you're most welcome to say "hi". For the ones being somewhere else, I wish you a wonderful start into the weekend.

queen of colors

Last week looks much brighter in pictures, than it actually felt. In fact, I did spent most of the time on the couch, being sick, but even that appears all green and fresh. Obviously, we really tend to forget about the good stuff more easily, than about all those sticks and stones along the way. What I definitely won't forget, is how the week had started. Our guest, serving us a cocktail she came up with, and which she had named to remember our time together, in a New Zealand backpacker. It for sure matched those times perfectely; all bright, fun and with a lot of headaches in the end. Well, maybe we should have left the last round on this out. To a great and colorful week from the Fishbowl, to you guys. Fall has arrvied in Berlin and I am surprised about how much I like it.

september calendar

"september" drawing by annton beate schmidt

Holy Canneloni, almost a week too late, but finally here it comes, the fresh and only just finished September Page. I am so, so sorry lovely readers, but I've totally underestimated this flue, this virus, whatever it was, that kept me hostage for five days. It is still warm and sunny out there and I have spent this week almost entirely on the couch; sleeping, reading, watching movies, sleeping. I am so so sick of being sick, you have no idea. So, instead of giving it even more space, here is the calendar, for you to download and to print out. I hope you'll like it and wish you the most wonderful weekend. Enjoy that in-between-moment of seasons, as much as possible. I love it. Pushing this old grumpy girl out there. Right now.

on being late

You're waiting for the calendar page. And yes, you're right. And me, I hate being late or not being able to keep a promise. But sometimes life is not heading the path we've planned. Our guest has left, well, and my nasty throat infection is back. Shivering and fever included. I cannot bring myself to work in the studio. No longer than answering emails and stuff, before it's back to the couch. It looks like I am one of those in-between-season sick women. Annoying. And it looks like, there is nothing else to do, but to sleep. So please take these flowers as an apology. Hopefully tomorrow things look brighter again. I will make it up to you. Scout's honor.

queen of colors

Who in the world, comes up with the idea of designing toilet paper in blue? I have absolutely no idea. It has been an accidental purchase for the Fishbowl, but as the Bavarian colors are blue and white, and our lovely guest is still around, maybe it has been some friendly greeting sign from the Universe. Besides that, we have arrived in September and I am kind of rubbing my eyes in disbelief. This must have happened, while I was busy with other stuff and suddenly, we're almost in the season of socks and of hot tea. Well, hopefully the next weeks will suprise us with a little more warmth and sunshine, followed by some Golden Fall. Next week to begin with, looks pretty busy. Once again. And tomorrow I will see you, with a sparkling new calendar page. Enjoy your Sunday night, whatever you are up to, and never forget to eat some cake. Or some blueberry pancakes.
